Removes excess fat of the body/face/neck to improve the contours. A small cannula is connected to a vacuum machine to remove the fat. This is the most common type of fat removal since the 1980’s.
A newer liposuction technique for removing unwanted fat. The body is contoured using smaller cannulas connected to syringes. Can be performed on face, neck and body removing pockets of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise. The fat can be used to improve the appearance of aging hands, feet and to enlarge buttocks and breasts. The fat can also be injected in the face to improve wrinkles, make lips fuller and to shape the cheeks, chin and jawline for better contours while giving a more youthful appearance. See fat injection section for more information. Dr. Scanland was the first plastic surgeon in our region to use this technique in 1993. She was featured in February 24, 1994 Chattanooga News-Free Press article discussing this new technique.
Flattens and reshapes the abdomen by tightening weakened stomach muscles and removing excess skin and fat. A Full Tummy Tuck or mini Tummy Tuck (less skin or no skin) can be performed. Often liposuction of the abdomen, hips, waist, mons and back are done to give a better contour at the same time. The scar can be placed very low where you can wear a very tiny bikini. Dr. Scanland performs many different modifications of the abdominoplasty depending on your needs. She performs this procedure on men that may have loose skin or loose muscles that need tightening.
Procedure to remove excess skin of arms. If skin is only loose along upper arm a short incision in the armpit can be used. If loose skin is along the entire arm Dr. Scanland places the incision along the lower inside of the arm to hide the scars. Excess skin of the forearm can also be excised if needed. Often the arm is contoured with liposculpture or liposuction at the same time.
Excess skin roll under the armpit area can be removed. Dr. Scanland places the incision along the side of the breast or chest wall up to the armpit in order to hide the scars instead of placing scars on the back. This will also tighten loose upper and middle back skin, which removes skin folds in this area. Often liposuction or liposculpture is done for a better contour.
Procedure to remove excess skin of the thigh which uplifts and tightens the thigh skin. Incisions can be made along the groin for loose skin of the upper thigh or along the inner thigh if the entire thigh skin is loose. This will remove skin folds and wrinkles of the thighs and knees. Skin can also be removed from the lower legs if needed. Often liposuction or liposculpture is done at the same time to give a better contour.
Removes excess skin all around the trunk. This combines an abdominoplasty and excision of lower back skin. This uplifts the thighs and buttocks and removes excess skin of the lower back. It gives a flat contour to the abdomen and lower back. Often liposuction or liposculpture is done to give a better contour to the abdomen and back areas.
Excess skin of the upper back or middle back can be removed. Dr. Scanland makes incisions along the sides of the breast or along the sides of the chest in order to hide the scars instead of placing the scars on the back.
Removes excess skin along the lower back which can also uplift the upper thighs and buttocks. It gives a flat contour to the lower back area. Often liposuction or liposculpture is done to give a better contour to this area.
If you only have loose skin with good abdominal muscles these skin folds can be corrected by removing loose skin along the sides of your waist. This hides the scar very well, allowing you to wear very low cut or backless evening dresses, sundresses and other clothing without a visible back scar. Dr. Scanland developed this technique many years ago
Removes skin along the top or bottom of buttocks to uplift the buttocks giving a youthful appearance to the buttocks. Dr. Scanland reshapes the buttocks to give you beautiful and youthful appearing buttocks. Liposuction or liposculpture can be used if you need contouring or fat injections if you need more volume and projection of the buttocks.
Using your own body fat to plump and add fullness to creased, furrowed and sunken areas of the face and body. Can be used to correct wrinkles of the face, neck and décolletage area. Fat can be used to make fuller lips, improve volume of the cheeks, chin, temple areas and the jaw line making you more attractive and youthful. Fat can camouflage ugly veins and tendons of the aging hands and feet. Also buttocks and breasts can be enlarged. Depression defects of the face, breast and body can be corrected as well with fat injections. Fat injections can also help improve burn and radiation scars. Fat injections greatly improve the appearance of the overlying skin making it look more youthful, probably due to stem cells and growth hormones that are in the fat cell mixture. Dr. Scanland was the first plastic surgeon in the region to do fat injections to the face and body in 1992. She was featured in a February 24,1994 Chattanooga News-FreePress article about her new techniques using fat.
Buttocks can be enlarged and given a youthful contour by having your own fat injected. This makes a natural buttock that looks and feels natural. Dr. Scanland does not recommend buttock implants because of the high rate of complications
Excess skin and fat can be removed along the entire body to give a normal contour. These procedures include facelift ,neck lift, breast uplift, tummy tuck, belt lipectomy, lower body lift, thigh lift, buttock lift, arm lift, liposuction, liposculpture, and excision of skin from chest, axilla (underarm area) and back. Often after weight loss the buttocks need more volume which can be easily corrected with fat injections.
